Dimitrios E. Karagounis
1929 – 2012
Dimitrios E. Karagounis was born in Athens on October 31, 1929, he was the son of a merchant family, son of Efstathios and Garyfalia and lived and grew up in the capital.
He graduated from the Varvakio School of Excellence and after his circular studies, was admitted to the National Kapodistrian University of Athens and graduated from the Athens Law School in 1952. He continued his postgraduate studies at the Sorbonne.
He practiced law for several decades and through the Athens Stock Exchange Association, which he created, he contributed as President, defending the rights of small investors and disseminating the idea of equity.
In addition to a successful lawyer, he and his wife Eleni, were supporters of the church’s social work. He supported with all his efforts the efforts to relieve the pain of the needy and the weak. The church, the Archbishopric has a large archive of their important work. He was honored for his offer by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, as well as the blessed Archbishop of Athens Christodoulos.
Eleni D. Karagounis

Eleni Karagounis, of the genus Carpodini, was born in Paros in 1943. She was the seventh of ten children of Eleftherios and Andriani Carpodini.
Gifted with beauty and full of worries, Helen moves to the capital in the late 1950s and meets the successful lawyer Dimitrios Karagounis, who is fascinated by her, finding an ideal companion but also a spiritual person.
They became great benefactors by restoring Holy Monasteries, such as the fundamental restoration of the Monastery of Panagia Damasta in Lamia, they made kind donations to Panagia of Tinos and Agios Dionysios Areopagitis, patron saint of Athens. They funded kindergartens, daycare centers and camps with children of financially weak parents, as well as various other institutions.
